Shooting For Growth

May 6th, 2017

“KEEP SHOOTING.”

That’s what I thought when I looked out into the audience. Because that’s what everyone always told me.

“Keep shooting.”

When you get out of film school. When you’ve directed your first short. When you’ve earned your first award.

“Keep shooting.”

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at the SHOOT panel at the DGA in NY on the state and future of branded entertainment. It was a star-studded cast of the biggest ad agency and production company execs you could gather. And me. The questions ranged from “What’s your company’s solution?” to “If I’m a director, why do I have to write?”

The most important takeaway from this entire experience was this: young people want to shoot but they don’t have a place to go.

We’re flipping the industry narrative on its head by creating a home for filmmakers to shoot for the world’s most influential brands, to grow their careers, to learn from other filmmakers, to FUCKING GROW. Not just to shoot. To grow.

DESPITE HOW OUT OF PLACE I FELT NEXT TO THESE INDUSTRY TITANS, I KNEW THAT WHEN I SAID, “KEEP SHOOTING,” IT ACTUALLY MEANT SOMETHING.
